Space Frame Mirrors

[Space Frame Mirrors] : The sculpture division at Thomas Mann Design produces mirrors in a variety of shapes, running from houses to eyes and beyond. The sizes range from small eye mirrors to larger full length mirrors. The mirrors are constructed from steel, brass, bronze, silver, aluminum and found objects and are priced between $650 and $3500. Each piece is hand tooled. For more information, please visit the [Space Frame Mirror] exhibit page.

[Lighting - Neon Fish] : This series of fish lights started out, like many of Mann's other sculpture projects, with a jewelry piece that looked very much like the sculpture. The jewelry often serves as the model for sculpture and it serves to provide exact details when the piece is enlarged.

[Streetcar Stops] : Thomas Mann designed and executed bas relief sculptures for pediment areas of two streetcar stops along the waterfront of the French Quarter in New Orleans. These pieces were constructed of anodized aluminum, bronze, and plastics.

[Behrman Public Works]: The public sculpture "SynChronicity" was developed for the City of New Orleans and the Arts Council and was funded through Percent for the Arts. Two detailed scale models were constucted in aluminum before the final fabricated full scale steel version was executed. The sculpture stands in Behrman Park, on the West Bank of New Orleans.

[Cafe Chairs, Assorted] : Based on the architectural design elements of the Flat Iron building in New York (the first building in America to employ an all steel superstructure) these chairs were designed to be more decorative than comfortable. They are an experiment in the mix of materials (steel, aluminum and mahogany) and the form which emulates its inspiration.

[Sleepy Time Teapot for the Celestial Seasonings Teapot Exhibit] : From the "Celestial Seasonings: A Loose Interpretation" exhibit, organized through the Ferrin Gallery of Northampton, MA, Thomas Mann constructed a steel wire and brass teapot. The piece was designed along the lines of the Everyday Objects pieces. The hollow wire frame is rusted and patinaed and functionality has been discarded to focus on form. The "see through" design is intended to force the viewer to appreciate the object in a different way.

[Absolut Mann] : Part of a fundraiser held every year, Absolut sponsors various artists to create a unique interpretation of the Absolut bottle. This is the example designed by Tom and auctioned for the New Orleans Aids Benefit in 1995.
