Anti-War Medals Show
First shown in November 2003 at Velvet da Vinci as a response to the War in Iraq, this exhibition then toured during 2004 and 2005, adding new artists & medals in each country. The expanded exhibition with 200 artists from 16 countries returned to Velvet da Vinci in November 2005, as a response to the continuing war and occupation in Iraq.

The exhibition was revived in October 2007 at Thomas Mann Gallery I/O in New Orleans, with some of the original pieces and many new ones, and continued to travel, adding more artists along the way.

The final stop was Northeast Harbor, Maine at Shaw Jewelry, with an opening date of July 17, 2008.

Although the show is finished traveling, it is still possible to see the amazing artistic responses of this shows participants on our flickr site.

Artists were asked to make a medal to commemorate, memorialize, honor or make comment on:
HEROES for valorous acts in combat or courageous opposition to the war
BATTLES for the acquisition of some goal, military, social, political
DESTRUCTION not just the physical environment but the psychological and emotional landscape as well
GRIEF what and whom are we grieving for?
TERROR who is terrorizing whom?
GREED somebody always gets rich from a conflict like this
HYPOCRISY abounds
ARROGANCE being demonstrated daily by our leaders
LOSS the greatest tragedy of all the toll has yet to be finally calculated
